NewAire HG1500 Air Hydroxyl Generator

The HG1500 Hydroxyl Generator Air Treatment System is a professional-grade air purification and deodorization solution designed to eliminate odors, bacteria, mold spores, VOCs, and airborne contaminants. Unlike ozone machines, hydroxyl technology is safe for use in occupied spaces, making it ideal for commercial, institutional, and residential environments.

This compact yet powerful unit combines UVC germicidal light, carbon filtration, and photocatalytic hydroxyl generation to neutralize airborne and surface contaminants at the molecular level. With coverage up to 1,500 square feet, the HG1500 is widely used in hotels, healthcare facilities, offices, schools, vehicles, and restoration projects where continuous air treatment is required.

The durable aluminum and ABS housing ensures long-term performance, while the 24-hour timer and low-maintenance design make it easy to deploy in continuous-use applications.

What Is a Hydroxyl Radical?

A hydroxyl radical (•OH) is the neutral form of the hydroxide ion (OH–). These highly reactive, short-lived molecules have an average half-life of less than two seconds. First discovered in 1963, hydroxyl radicals are often called the “detergent of the atmosphere” because they naturally react with and neutralize a wide range of airborne pollutants, including certain greenhouse gases like methane and ozone.

Unlike free radicals produced inside living organisms, atmospheric hydroxyl radicals are instantly neutralized upon contact with substances and cannot be ingested as complete ions. This natural reactivity makes hydroxyl radicals one of the safest methods for air purification and odor removal in occupied spaces.

In nature, hydroxyl radicals are formed when UV light from the sun splits water vapor (H2O) into hydrogen and oxygen. These components then recombine to form the hydroxyl radical (•OH), which continuously cleans the air around us.

Benefits of Using a Hydroxyl Generator

Hydroxyl generators provide a safe, effective way to remove odors, bacteria, viruses, and other airborne contaminants from occupied areas. Unlike ozone generators, which require evacuation, hydroxyl generators can be used while people and pets remain in the space, making them ideal for hotels, offices, healthcare facilities, and other commercial or residential environments.

While ozone works faster in unoccupied spaces, hydroxyl generators offer consistent air treatment and deodorization over time. Typically, a task that takes one day with ozone may take three to five days with hydroxyl technology—but without disrupting daily operations.

Scientific studies have shown that hydroxyl generators effectively reduce a wide range of bacteria and viruses. Air passes through the unit, comes into contact with a germicidal UV lamp, and is neutralized safely, providing cleaner, fresher air for your facility.

FAQ's

Is the HG2500 safe to run while people are present?

Hydroxyl generators are designed to treat air inside the unit and are positioned as suitable for occupied areas when used according to manufacturer instructions.

Does the HG2500 produce ozone?

The unit uses an ozone-free UVC wavelength (254 nm) and is marketed as a hydroxyl system rather than an ozone shock generator.

What maintenance is required?

Carbon filters and UVC lamps/photocatalytic chambers are consumable components and should be replaced based on runtime hours and environmental conditions.

* mg/hr (Milligrams per Hour): Measures the maximum amount of ozone the unit can produce each hour. Higher mg/hr ratings indicate greater ozone output for treating larger spaces or heavier odor contamination.

** CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute): Measures the volume of air the unit moves each minute. Higher CFM ratings circulate air more quickly, helping ozone or hydroxyls disperse throughout the treatment area more efficiently.
